Many different, but ill go over some of the listed answers.

Steve Park - Not so much. Injuries screwed him over more than anything.

Michael Waltrip - I dont know of his expectations back in the mid-80's when he was a rookie, but if he was able to stick it out in NASCAR for many years, that isnt exactly Ryan Leaf-esque

Ryan Newman - A possible candidate, but hasnt done the total flop yet. Mega-ego (and I belive probably one of the reasons Rusty Wallace retired) could be Newman's downfall.

Jamie McMurray - A very good candidate. After winning in just his 2nd carrer race, expectations were sky high. Chip Ganassi gives McMurray a full time ride for the next season, doesnt do well, goes over to Roush, one of the top teams in NASCAR, and still flopping. If he doesnt win, and keeps on having sub-par performances, he'll probably be like Todd Bodine, Ted Musgrave, etc. and head to the Truck Series.

Casey Mears - Medium expectations, wasnt supposed to be a world beater. Give him a little more time.

Shane Hmiel - Id rather compare him to Todd Marinavich Big expectations thrown away by a drug habit.

Casey Atwood - Growing pains his first year, started to get somewhere year 2, and Evernham screws him over by putting him in the "redheaded stepchild" #7 car that Evernham just bought, and had no intentions of making a good team.

Buckshot Jones - He was driving for a small time team when he tried Winston (Nextel) Cup. If he was driving for a major team, and produced the same results, I would throw him in as a good candidate

Ted Musgrave - Rookie in the 80's, so like Mikey, I dont know of his expectations.

Wally Dallenbach - Ditto, I think he was viewed as nothing more than a car filler for a team if they needed a driver.

Shawana Robinson - As mentioned, a speed bump, BAM racing was a unsupported team, and the only reason why she ever had any press is because she was a woman.

Erin Crocker - I have an opinion about her, but I dont want to post it, and get flagged for abuse.

Jason Keller - Just never had the oppoturnity to get picked up by a Cup team

Sterling Marlin - No. He was good, got hurt, then pretty much stunk after that.

Robby Gordon - Maybe, but he has been good at times, not been a total bomb.

From all the answers ive seen, and looking them over, the Ryan Leaf of NASCAR has to be Shane Hmiel. If he never had that drug habit, he really could of been something in NASCAR. He had his connections (his dad was a champion crew cheif), and was doing well in Busch. Its too bad he threw it all away.

I don't know about whos the biggest flop all time in NASCAR.. But for the past couple of years I would say Ryan Newman. What the hell has happened to that team?! I can't believe Penske hasn't gave him the boot yet... But then again, Maybe he's just keeping the seat warm till Sam Hornish Jr is ready!

Brendan Gaughan!

Gets a promotion from Trucks to Cup and falls flat on his face!

Oh, yeah...remember when Steve Kinser tried Cup?

Just because you can drive another ride like a bat out of hell, does not mean you can be successful in the Cup series.

Steve Park. He was supposed to be the man to beat early in his career and after that wreck he was never the same. Ryan Newman maybe, but he's looked good so far this year. Michael Waltrip...for all the hype for a good many years and he never did all that well.
