Why Yes!
1. Great weather year round.
2. Plenty of activities and attractions. Beach, museums, history, shopping, cruise ships, great dining, night life.
3. Warm and friendly people.
3. US territory. US currency.
4. English widely spoken.

Why not!
1. Expensive accommodations.
2. High crime.
3. Over populated.
4. Expensive vacation destination in general.

If money is not an issue PR is a great destination, you know how to keep yourself safe and the touristic areas are not bad.
It is not like Dominican republic or Mexico... not that bad!

I would have to say "YES" Puerto Rico is a great place for a vacation.

1. It's easy to gete here from any major airport in the States or any other country for that matter.

There is plenty to see and do for all tastes:
Looking for a relaxing vacation = yes
Looking for a scenic vacation = yes
Looking for an adventurous vacation = yes
Looking for a cultural vacation = yes
Looking for a culinary vacation = yes

Rent a car and try to see some of the sites listed here and by the others. You can do some of these trips by an organized tour, but if there is more than one of you, you will probably be better off renting a car.

Places to see.
Old San Juan - easily spend a few hours walking around here. It's a little hilly so maybe jump on the free trolley bus to El Morro (the fort) and work your way back down through the city. Plenty of places to eat and drink for all budgets. Try Breakfast at La Bombonera (one of the oldest establishments in the city)

El Yunque (rainforest) plus spend the afternoon at Luquillo Beach

Check out one of the grand hotels on a weekend evening and try your hand (feet) at some latin dancing.

Ponce on the South coast for more Puerto Rican architecture

Arecibo Observatory. The James Bond movie Golden Eye and also the Jodie Foster movie Contact were filmed there.

There is also this: Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve (Tel:787-722-5882). I have not been, but I would like to (it sounds a cool place to visit). You can have an escorted tour through the reserve on an electric trolley, but you have to book in advance.

Check out frommers.com, roughguide.com and www.visit-the-coqui.com/home

Hope this helps

Puerto Rico is astonishing, relying on the place you bypass. generally with a cruise, you would be in San Juan section. outdated San Juan has the outdated spanish aritecture, so it has that eu look and sense. the only draw back of a cruise is that like quite a few different port, you would be bombarded with human beings attempting to work out stuff once you get off, in spite of the shown fact that it particularly is a lot greater effective than many different carribean places. Puerto Rico temperture is around seventy 5-eighty 5 all 365 days around, however the wintry climate/early spring months are the wave season (enjoyed via surfers), so the sea is alot rougher than the summer season time. stay away from the vacationer places like Senior Frogs- overpriced for the quantity of money. try the community foodstuff trucks and distributors, lots greater fee-effective and alot tastier. The seashores on the NW corner are spectacular on the city of Aguadilla, jointly with Boriquen sea coast , Crash boat , and Hobos sea coast. Plus that isn't a extreme vacationer section, so anyone is a lot friendlier.

I lived there for 10 years. Go to Ponce and the whole south side. It's really pretty there. You have to rememeber that the island is only 30 by 100 miles so you can see quite a bit of it in a week, although you ARE driving through hills and there are a ton of people on a small island. If you go to San Juan, which is where most people go especially on cruises, you will see a lot of history, but if you're mor einto laying in the beach in a clean, clear water quiet area, then go to the south or east. Driving there is a nightmare, seriously!! You will be shocked!!!

Yes! I just came back from there yesterday. I stayed in Isla Verde right outside of San Juan. We didnt have a chance to travel far from the area but we did go to Luquillo Beach and went to Old San Juan. I have friends that have been to other parts of the island such as culebra, ponce and viequies which they all say are great places to hang at the beach and sightsee.
