I have short, stout legs and my quads tend to bulk up very easily when I exercise. What toning exercises can I do to make my legs appear long & lean? What about cardio?
Should I not use the elliptical for cardio or is there a wrong way to work out on the elliptical?

Thanks.

Ok, how about which exercise/movements should I avoid doing? For example, I know I shouldn't do any lunges or squats.

I have the same problem... I'm pretty thin but my thighs are thicker than the rest of me from running a lot. I recently started taking a dance class and I've noticed my thighs look a lot leaner than they did from all the stretching.

After you exercise stretch your legs for at least 10 minutes. Your muscles are already loose and warm so you can become more flexible. This will make your muscles look longer.

Cardio is great for toning the entire body. It tones the muscles while burning the fat surrounding those muscles.

Weight training is also good for muscle toning. To tone - use lighter weights for more reps (at least 15). The last rep should be difficult but not impossible.

Try swimming and see if that helps. If you have short, stout legs, you'll probably always have them. It's just the way you were made. Try swimming, though. That may help you out.....good luck!
