Heres mine...
yesterday i was fishing with a minnow lure and all the sudden something huge bit it and swam off... then about 30 secs later i saw it jump out of the water.. it was a huge carp.. huge.. so i fought with it for about 20 minutes (i had 8 lb line on) and finally got it fairly close to the shore (i thought) so i jumped in the lake with a net and when i was trying to catch it in the net i saw the lure float up to the top.. needless to say i was and am extremely disappointed.

So whats your story?

Mine too is a Northern Wisconsin story. I was fishing on the lake with a road leading up to it ;-). It was an interesting day, I was casting a safety pin bucktail spinner and my cousin and I were getting some action and follows. I had a sub-legal muskie shake-off at the boat.

Then I saw a huge olive slab flash in the water as my pole started to bend! I fought the huge olive slab for a couple of minutes and then the pole and line went limp.

Lo & behold, the huge olive slab wasn't attacking my bucktail, but the 21" northern pike that was, unbeknownst to me, hooked on my bucktail. The pike's belly was tore open and it had 4.5" bitemarks on its back.

My father has a 30 lb muskie on the wall and IIRC its bitemarks are 4".

I too lost sense and instead of pitching the pike back in the drink I went nuts we went and told my Dad. He then asked what the hey were doing in the cabin instead of trying to catch that monster!

Well this is the most recent

Last Friday night at about 1 am . I was throwing a Pop~n~ Image jr. lure for bass . I just cast out and was getting ready to twitch the lure a couple times when the water exploded . It sounded like someone threw a cinderblock in the water. It scared me so bad I jerked the lure right away from the bass.

I was so excited my knees were weak LOL. I never saw the fish but judging by the sound and the waves it was well over 10 pounds

the lake record where I was fishing is a 14. 6 oz bass caught and released 2 yrs ago. No telling how big it is now they grow fast here in Florida . It could be 18 to 20 pounds by now

I was up in Northern Wisconsin on Potato Lake near Chetek, a nice sized big fish (musky/northern) lake. It was a windy day so we floated into the weeds, got stuck, and just decided to throw some topwater weedless lures. I was using a Mister Twister Top Prop and cast the lure near what appeared to be an animals stick house on the edge of the water. On my retreive I saw a fin following in the shallow water. I played it right, got a strike, and set the hook perfectly (not always easy on a topwater lure). I fought the fish (most likely the biggest one of my life and what i like to think was the biggest one in the lake) for ten minutes. My friend grabbed the net and tried to troll us over there, but before we could move, the fish caught up in the lilly pads and got away. I set my pole down. Yelled some profanities, cracked a beer open and didnt fish the rest of the day. I'll get it one day. Oh yes I will.

I just started fishing last fall, and I'm obsessed. Opening week of the Dungeness River, I was down at the "Meat hole" where everyone was combat fishing. I didn't even know how to tie a good knot. So I asked a guy what to do and he said just throw what you got out there, let it hit bottom and when you feel something stop it, give it a good yank.

So I'm out there with all the gear heads, elbow to elbow, just trying not to get in anyone's water and get my line tangled up. Of course all I'm doing is snagging up all day and spending my whole time on the bank retying.

Had a couple on (fishing for cohos) and kept losing them. They were biting through 30 lb test some guy said. Well, I started getting frustrated, but kept on fishing and watching what others were doing. Then I had one, and everyone started yelling "FISH ON! SHE HAS ONE!" So I play this big ol fish, and I'm only running 12 lb test, I get it all the way up to the bank and the guy next to me goes to grab it's tail. It was a beautiful fish, must have been a 15 pounder and bright silver! Anyways, he goes to grab the tail and it lays sideways, well the hook pops out and off it swam! I was so damn pissed! He told me what I did wrong, and the whole day I never had another one on. I fished until sundown tho.

That was my very first day ever fishing at a river for salmon and after that I was determined to catch some. I finally caught a few but nothing as bright as that fish....hopefully I learned enough to make this year better....my smoker is lonely.

The other day I was fishing in a little scamp boat and I threw out with a cork and a minnow on the line and my line messed up and i was trying to fix it by pulling the knot out and something took my cork under. I tried to set the hook and it did but it pulled my whole reel part through the line so I started pulling the line bare handed and finally the line snapped. I'm pretty sure it was a big catfish. But man I felt like some of those Bill Dance bloopers...

Me and my buddy wanted to make us one of those fishing videos to see if we could sell it. So we set the tripod and camera up on the hill next to the pond. We had our lead all cut etc to make the dynamite sink to the bottom. So I lit the first stick of dynamite and threw it into the pond. "Boom"...man the fish were floating everywhere. Then this Game Warden showed up from no where, and started writing me a ticket. My buddy lit another stick of dynamite, handed it to the officer and said, "You gonna fish, or write that ticket"? We had him on tape, so he couldn't turn us in.

But on a more serious note, I was in the river the other day Catfishing, and had my Mitchell 300 all fixed up with new line etc and threw out near the boat. This big Catfish hit, almost jerked my reel out of the boat. I grabed it, set the hook good, and the fish came towards the boat, didn't even slow down, going the other way. When the line broke, it sounded like a .22 rifle going off. Gosh, I wish I could have put that one in the boat. However, I did catch several other good size cats that day. And that IS true.

I was coming in from a fairly unproductive fishing trip with three other guys (couple of skipjack tuna, one small wahoo), and as we approached the pass through the reef to return to the marina, one fella's rig started to sing (6 ft Penn Tuna Stick, 12/0 Penn Senator reel loaded with 50 lb. mono). He belted up and grabbed the rod, stating that it felt like a big yellowfin tuna because whatever he had on was sounding. I started hauling in the handlines while another guy reeled in the other rod. I was about halfway through the second line when the rod man yelled out, "Holy $#!+". I looked up to see a HUGE Pacific Blue Marlin doing a tailwalk about 75 yards behind our boat. I nearly dropped the handline board. Long story short, we each fought the thing for an hour, covering three nautical miles, with two more tailwalks, before the thing got tired of toying with us and broke free. One guy was a fairly experienced marlin fisherman and estimated it at over 600 lbs., maybe pushing 700. He could tell because we got it within 15-20 yards of the boat several times before it decided it was close enough and 'porpoised' away.

Good thing my boss was another fishing buddy of mine, because I was three hours late to work that day but he understood.
