I don't think rude is the right word. Maybe sure was unsure of what the smile meant or how to respond.

Hello,

Not smiling is not rude at all, that's like saying its rude to not be sad if someone missed a new episode of their favorite show.

I believe it is quite rude to Not smile back....but sometimes we have to be flexible in our thinking - maybe they are pre-occupied with some thought? Or maybe they are simply not the smiling types. Or maybe if they are of the opposite sex or even of the same gender, they are a bit conscious/shy/taken by surprise.

But yes, when someone doesn't smile back, I find it a bit hurting and rude.

I would say that it is rude not to smile back at people that smile at you. I smile almost all the time at people I meet on the street in the store and so on, and so many people just look down...it isn't a crime to smile at a stranger!

I think it is rude not to smile at people when they are smiled at. But that happens to me alot and most of the time they dont even notice you smiling at you they are probably spacing off or didnt even pay attention.

Maybe she thought you were smiling at someone else, like another woman beside her. Sometimes you find yourself in embarrassment situations when you thought someone was smiling at you, you smiled back, and at the end there was another person at you side...!

This happens to me all the time. I smile at someone and they just look away. I think it's rude. It's gotten to the point where I don't smile at anyone anymore unless they do it first. I don't like being like that but that's what happens...........

Don't take it personal. You would have to know what is going on in her life. Alot people feel they don't have a reason to smile because of the chaos that is going on in their life. As the scripture says, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is". You will only express what is going on in your heart. If there is no joy in her life, then she has no reason to smile.

She could be rude, but on the other hand, she may have not been looking at you...you just thought she was.

She is shy and was caught staring at you for some reason. She probably was embarrassed too.
