Sounds like allergies, but definitely check with your vet. That would be an awful thing to have to live with and no one did anything about it.

RE:
Will eye discharge go away by itself in my golden retriever or do I have to go to the vet for antibiotics?
My 6 month old golden retriever has always had gunk in his eyes in the mornings. However, lately he has had a lot of yellow eye discharge in his left eye, more than normal. I keep wiping it out each morning, but it keeps coming back. Now, I'm assuming it's an allergy or infection. I know...

Sounds like he has dry eye, which is an extremely common condition in dogs that, left untreated, can result in reoccuring infection (the discharge). Dry Eye literally means the dog's lacrimal glands aren't producing enough tears. And since tears form a barrier against infection, this makes it more likely the eye will become infected. Dry Eye is treated by inexpensive 'false tear' eye drops, but it is a lifelong condition, and of course the infection will have to be cleared up by antibiotics first.
The vaccines your dog has had are to protect against specific common diseases like leptospirosis, not against general illness. I wouldn't wait, as with any illness, the longer you wait the more expensive it is going to be! If you ask a vet about the possibility of Dry Eye, they might do a tear test - very quick, done in consult, cheap, takes about 15 seconds and will tell you if you can expect your dog to have reoccurring eye trouble.
The fact that his eyes tend to be gunky in the morning fits with Dry Eye - if his eyes have been closed all night he will have been producing even less tears than usual.

It sounds like he probably has an infection. The same thing happened to my rottweiler. I would clean her eye out 3-4 times a day with a warm rag and flush it out with saline eye wash, it healed up in about a week. You can also use mild costeriod drops or ointment. You need to check to see if he may have something stuck in his eye. You might also want to try keeping the hair around his eyes trimmed so it doesn't rub against the eye and keep it irritated. If it doesn't get any better with in a week I would probably try calling a vet and seeing what they suggest.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7l3
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Yellow makes me think it's an infection, but if it's just in the morning it's more likely allergies.
