I can't find one unhealthy thing on my ingredient list
Bread flour, water, sugar, salt, yeast
Plum tomatoes, onions, garlic olive oil , basil , oregano ground fennel seed
Part skim mozzerella cheese
grated locatelli romano
Looks healthy to me but I seem to have a minority opinion.

Angela , I did see the article . I'm a native New Yorker and NYC pizzas have always been baked at really high temperatures especially those baked in coal fired- ovens i.e. John's or Lomardi's
I bake the pizza I described above on a baking stone at 550-600 degrees in a home oven.
Locotelli Romano is a hard sheeps milk cheese similiar to parmesan .

The purpose of the sugar is to give the yeast something to eat . The actual amount is about a teaspoon.

I know what you mean. I live in Chicago where we love our pizza, too. The recipe you described sounds pretty healthy to me, especially with the mozerella made from skim milk.
This doesn't really answer your question, but here's an easy recipe for healthy mini-pizzas if you're interested.
Take whole wheat pita bread (usually found in containers of 8 or so), slather on some tomato sauce--a homemade sauce would be awesome--add your favorite toppings and some low-fat cheese, lightly brush the outer edges of the crust with olive oil to make it crispy and bake at 375 for 10 to 12 minutes. Voila!
Hope this helps! Viva la pizza :)

I think what they mean by pizza being considered unhealthy is that, on a whole, pizzas aren't made with things that have a lot of vitamins/minerals/fiber/good stuff for you in them, but they do tend to be high in calories. Sure, you could make a super healthy pizza with your own ingredients. Part of why people eat pizza is because it tastes good though and the more healthy crap you put on it, the more it takes away from taste.

White flour is unhealthy. Try wheat flour. Sugar is unhealthy. Try honey or brown sugar. locatelli romano? If I know what that was, I'd probably say it's unhealthy. And pizza is greasy. Mozzerella is healthy, so is tomatoes, onions, garlic, olive oil(yes, it is), basil, oregano, and that other thing. So, some right choices, but other things are healthier.

cheese has lots of bad fats and adds a lot of calories. The crust is debatable depending on what finally goes in it. But whole wheat crusts are generally viewed as healthy. There's nothing wrong with any of the veggies or O Oil

let's put it this way, eat the stuff everyday (365 days) for a year without eating any other food. Then check back with us after a year. We'll see if it's really unhealthy. Bottom line, eat anything in moderation. A balance of the 3 food groups may assure you good health.
take charge and God Bless!!!

If you are making your own pizza and use the ingredients above it is not unhealthy. If you are going to Pizza Hut or Domino's your eating mostly grease. Bread is probably the worst ingredient out of all of the above but in moderation it is fine.

If it is made with good ingredients it can be healthy. White flour crust is full of calories, sugar in sauce is full of calories. Cheese is full of fat! Make your own at home using whole wheat or whole grain crust, Low sugar/low fat sauce, low fat cheese and veggie toppings and olive oil.

Everything you have mentioned in your ingred. is fine JUST don't add meat. The meat is greasy and that is were all the calories come from. Yeast and flour too much of it is considered fating. Everything else you have is fine
Eat and enjoy

Well, here are the unhealthy ingredients: bread flour, sugar, salt, yeast, mozzarella cheese (it helps a little that it's skim).
