Try keeping your brown sugar in an air tight container...it will keep its moisture longer.
A good trick to soften your brown sugar once opened, is to place a slice of soft white bread in the bag. The sugar will take the moisture from the slice of bread. It works great!
Hope this helps.

It always stays soft when I keep it in my container...Its like a plastic canister and it keeps it a long time sealed tight. I don't use it very often, and I find this is the best way to keep it for long periods of time. I never buy more than a small bag at a time.

Place a slice of bread in with the brown sugar to keep it soft. They also make brown sugar savers that you can place in brown sugar permanently.

Keep in ziplock bag with the air removed. Keeps it soft and keep in cupboard not in the light because it will dry it out and make it hard.

a slice of white bread in the bag works great, but you can also pop it in the microwave for about 20 secs to soften it up. Hope this helps

why not put in another bag. Either those small see through bags you can get, and just close and roll it, or even shopping bag that hasn't got holes, just hold straight the top part, then roll it and lock it yourself like flower style. if i can explain it clearly. that way it will stay dry and don't put in dump areas, not in the fridge either

I use a rubber band wrapped around it and put it in the veggie draw in the refrigerator that will keep it soft for a long time.

I buy the kind with a ziplock top, and just squeeze out the air. You could just dump it all in a gallon ziplock, squeeze the air out and slide it closed.

If you put a slice of apple in it, it becomes soft again, or it helps it to stay soft. I'm not sure why.
