short. long hair gets tangled, messy, and dirty very easily, and 8-year-old boys are very prone to dirty situations. also, when he's running around, he'll be sweating, making hair on his neck uncomfortable. short hair will cool him down during the hot summer and it will grow back in time for winter. also, short hair is pretty cute.

Are you into practical and easy care? When I was growing up, it was the crew cut or flattop. No extra hair to comb just wash and out you go! You don't even have to dry it. My son who is now 27 years old, still wears his hair this way. No muss, no fuss!

a buzz cut, for sure. But, if you want it to have some style, have them do a faux hawk or leave it a little longer in the front

Shave it off. That's what I do and by the time school comes around, it is grown back enough to get shaped up just in time for pictures.
