I am not a catholic but I do love studying the bible and the history of christianity. I am fully aware of the Constantine era, but I am mainly concern about the so-called underground christians that began as the "Vatican" Church

I think that Catholics will tell you that the Catholic church began from the moment that Jesus appointed Peter as his successor.

The first 500 years of Christian history are so long and intertwined it is impossible to really answer this question on Yahoo answers. Short form the Christian Churches (and it was before the council of Nicea as people will tell you) united when Clement I (died about 97 CE) as Bishop of rome issued a letter on the construct of the Christian churches that all considered themselves one body of Christ as to a heirachy and order.

And yes Clement came out of the Apostolic succession of Peter, and handed down the office of bishop of Rome to his successors.

But some of these answers should be rich.

They offer history courses in this you know.

Ms. 4Jesus that site was incredibly funny because it shows how ignorant and judgemental people who call themselves "Born Again Christians" can be. If you are born again shouldn;t you have been born into a better more Jesus like way?

Bless you Ms. 4Jesus we all love you anyways.

Read the book "The two babylons" by Hislop
or
When Jesus Became God
The Struggle to Define Christianity During the Last Days of Rome by Richard E. Rubenstein

This site will make you really realize who or what the pope is & there is scripture describing the Vatican. There's also a section called Escapees from Romanism.

The Catholic Church began in the little house of Nazareth when Mary gave her consent to God, and the Word was made flesh.
It came more into view when the Lord gathered his apostles around him and taught them all he wanted the world to know about him, it was manifested under the cross of Jesus, where his mother and John were standing and later to the world at pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the apostles and Mary. Later the apostles would without fear bring the Catholic faith out to every corner of the world.

The Church is the ones who believe in Jesus.
