Your premise is flawed.
If the percentage of African Americans joining Islam (more likely the Americanized Nation of Islam, actually) is up, and the percentage joining the military is down, it does not necessarily mean that "more" are joining Islam than the military. For example (I'm pulling these #'s out of my butt, but it's just to make a point)...
Typically 15,000 African Americans join the Military in a given year....
5000 African Americans join the Nation of Islam every year.
Now, let's say that the Army receives a 15% drop and the Nation of Islam receives a 10 percent gain...
Military= 12750
Nation of Islam = 5500
Military still wins.
Again, I don't know the actual numbers, but I really doubt that there are "more" folks joining Nation of Islam (or Islam in general) than there are the military as far as the African American community is concerned.
