Financial aid?

My daughter is graduate In June and she her dream school Is Stevens In Hoboken so now we are waiting for her to get accepted. My question Is I'm filing my taxes a married but separate will that prevent me from getting financial aid for her?

It depends on who claims her on her taxes. If only one of you are claiming her it should be the one that has the lowest income. If because you are married you both can claim her then both your incomes will affect her financial aid.
No matter what you can't prevent her from getting financial aid. She still needs to apply for FAFSA regardless because you never know what she can get.
If you are afraid your income will be too high for her to get money from financial aid (FAFSA) there are three things you can do.
1. Help her get scholarships:

Possibly. Financial aid does not just look at how much you make. If you are married but filing separately, both incomes will come into play. More than that, your assets will make a huge impact. Earnings on any investments, the value of any properties the both of you own, and any savings accounts will be evaluated. More than likely, if you make over 60K and have some really great investment accounts/properties..you will get little to no aid. Scholarships that are not financially biased will be your best bet for financial aid.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends how much your husband also makes, and believe me they will want everything on you and your husband... when I filed my financial aid I wanted to just send them a urine, hair, and blood sample... it seemed like they needed as much. If your husband makes too much then no, you cannot get financial aid, they will expect him to pay for her college, or you both together.

There are government loans & grants, and then there are private loans & scholarships.

try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying. Scholarships usually have a 1 or 2 page application, and require an essay. Take your time with the essay, so yours stands out.

every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc

here are some links with a HUGE list of what is available. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for.

Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants & scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it.

OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.
