I am getting married in January, but neither of us have stellar credit and we want to borrow money for the wedding. What is the best way to get a loan or credit card with low APR?

Did anyone answer your question? I don't think so. Isn't it so much fun getting lectures. :) Anyway, if your credit and fiance's credit isn't that great you're probably not going to get a card or loan with a low APR. That's a fact. Now, with saying that, my suggestion is this, if you are in the US try to go through a credit union, if either of you don't have any loan on your vehicle, use your car as collateral (should be an easy way of getting a few thousand, at least). Also, keep in mind that whatever you borrow, plan to payoff with some of the wedding money you receive. Congrats by the way!!!

Why not have a small wedding for just family and close friends that you can afford? It will be no less special than a big wedding. Don't be in debt for your wedding. Save your money for a house, a vacation, any number of things. You're starting things off on the wrong foot if you borrow money to finance your wedding!

Don't go into debt over a wedding. There are many many options to have an inexpensive wedding without racking up credit card bills or taking out a loan. It's so not worth it. You'll begin your married lives together in debt, and will add stress to a brand new marriage.

Please re-read your e-mail.
You are highly mistaken.
You DO NOT need a loan to get married.
You can get married at City Hall!
You want a loan to make a fairy tale dream of yours come true.
But if you have bad credit and if the man of your dreams has bad credit, then the best thing you can do is to invite people over your house to give you wedding gifts since neither of y'all can AFFORD to be married.

I agree with all of the above answers, but I will add some pointers. You have 9 months to go. Start saving the money NOW.
Get yourself a jar and put your spare change in it at the end of every day.
Do without the fancy coffee drink, and put the money you WOULD HAVE spent in the jar. At $3 per day (at least), that's $60 per month, times 9 months, that's $540.
Stay away from the vending machines. Brown bag your lunch, snacks, etc.
Go to your local library and check out "Bridal Bargains". They have a ton of money saving tips.

recommend you go for a low cost wedding and not take out a loan. why start your married life stressed out? you can do a 5 yr vow renewal and go all out.
no offense, but it is just a day in your life. you have to think about the consequences.

You don't want to start off your married life in debt. You could elope or have a small family wedding in someone's backyard.

Now why would you want to start your lives together by immediately getting into debt? It's only going to cause marital stress, arguements and divorce. Just go get married at the courthouse.

You could try to pull the tradition of having the bride's family pay for the reception... but you could also try a pot-luck reception by asking guests to bring a dish. Try to make it come off as being memorable and not as being cheap. Good luck!
