I'm trying to lose weight! In the morning, I make myself a Genisoy Chocolate Protein Shake with a small banana and skim milk - That's all I have for breakfast. Is it good for me to do this? I have an apple or orange for morning snack, a lean cuisine and spinach for lunch - dinner - usually salad and a small portion of whatever I make.

If you keep that up, and don't drink anything but water or diet soda for 2 weeks, you will start to notice a difference. Make sure you do a little walking or exercising a few times a week for 30 minutes or so. You should be just fine. Try not to drink too many shakes, unless that is all you are consuming.

Why are you having a protein shake? I dont think it is necessary to use protein supplements unless you are vegan, vegetarian or are doing heavy weights. Protein is the only thing that will repairs torn muscles. It is used generally by vegans who get no protein from animal products or by people who are building muscle. And yes body builders would certainly gain some weights by using it. Unless you are lacking protein in your diet, i dont think it is necessary. Any excess protein that you supply the body cannot be used for anything else. It is simply wasted.

It all comes down to calories in versus calories out. The main benefit of protein is you feel fuller for longer for the amount of calories. The same is true for complex carbohydrates. They take longer to break down into glucose, which is what our bodies run on.
