To rhyme with "geese" or "lease". The "o" is pronounced as in the exclamation Oh!

Well, I pronounce it /əˈbiːs/. "Oh-beece", as everyone's been writing, implies something like /əʊˈbiːs/ - that is, with an initial diphthong. I'd be surprised to find that the majority of British people pronounce it that way most of the time, but I may be wrong.

I'll leave that to the Brits: but, years ago, "proper English" was to pronounce "obesity" as: oh-BESS-eh-ty. Not oh-BEESE-eh-ty.

Just thought I'd throw that in.
