He's 18 years old, has had lab tests, x-rays and 2 doses of anti-biotics. Still having symptoms. Docs are involved, but still only say virus.

The Epstein-barr virus that causes mononucleosis has an incubation period of 60 days before the onset of symptoms and a person can remain sick for a couple of months after that. The virus can also flare up several times later.

In short, depending on the virus, it can last a long time.

You do not say how old your son is...I do hope he is not a young child.....It is not normal for anything to go on this long whether it is a virus or not....he may have strep throat which can only be determined with a throat culture done in the Dr's office....It will not go away until treated and yes it happens to adults....he needs to see another DR today so he can begin treatment no matter what is wrong...good luck...and I hope he feels better....
