Looks like the drive for 5 may finally happed in 2007. I'd love to see Gordon take home his 5th Cup Championship, and his first NEXTEL Cup Title. I've personally never questioned his committment @ all. NASCAR has evolved so much in the past few years, that'd it be impossible for him to keep up w/ the pace that he was @. I mean, look @ the talent level that has came into NASCAR since his last title. And it's not like he just fell off.. He still wins races, still gets constant top 5's and top 10's.. Anyone that thinks Gordon is done and not taking home a 5th title.. Send em my way.. All bets taken!

And one final thought.. Look how CRAPPY his car was Sunday @ the start of the race. And even @ the end of the race he was still not happy with it. But where did he finish?! 3rd... That's how you win a championship! Finishing 3rd on days that your car was HORRIBLE.

I Don't think he ever lost his commitment to win. It is a long season and all it takes is for one of the also rans to mess up in front of and collect you in their wreck or blow an engine and that race is lost! Jeff had a lot of bad luck 2 years ago when he missed the chase. There is only so much a driver and pit crew can do. There are only a handful of guys that have a legitimate shot at the championship, 24, 48, 20, 8, 9, 17, 31, 29. Then you have a handful of guys that if everything breaks their way can challenge, 5, 40, 19, 11, 2, 12. The rest of the guys are just field fillers. Just take last year for example, Tony Stewart would have walked away with championship IF they had allowed 12 cars in. 2 years ago it would have been Kasey Kahne. However both guys were locked out of the chase by being 11th in points after 26 races. DNF's have stopped both Tony and Kasey from winning championships over the past 2 years. The same could happen to any or all of them this year. D.W. said "I'd rather be lucky than good." If everything goes well any one of the top 15-20 teams can win.

I don't think it's ever been a matter of committment or desire with Jeff Gordon. Sometimes it's been focus, other years (like the last two), consistency. I am a huge 24 fan, and if Letarte and the rest of the crew can perform the way have been and even take it up a couple of notches, it'll be a strong year for them. He probably should've won a race by now, either Vegas, Atlanta or Bristol, so hopefully that's keeping them motivated and not frustrated. It's early, but if he can manage top 10s at upcoming races like Texas and Charlotte, I'd say watch out then. He's been pretty bad at those two (and Richmond) lately, so if we seem nail one or both of them, that's a great sign. I think he's definitely going to win two or three races this year, including one at a track where he hasn't won in a while or ever. - Todd Shriber

I knew this year was going to be a good year for his as he is getting a little luck a new wife and a new kid can make anything happen. I mean being happier makes you a better person and he has the talent and the skill and experience to beat everyone but it takes one bad day to ruin your year but hes been pretty consistent in the past 4 races his worst finish thus far is like 12th. With like 2 2nd places and now a 3rd place.. Drive for Five is back and full throttle!!!!

He also made a comment on NASCAR.com about the race saying during that last caution "tell that #5 that if I get a fender underneath him he better remember that were teammates and if I dont get a fender underneath I wont move him out of my way either.." I laughed so hard when I read that its not word for word but you get the point...

OK.
Gordon can do this but before he does he has another goal,he wants to #1 tie Dale Earnhardt Seniors number of wins(76),Then #2 pass Seniors number of wins.
Then he will concentrate on the championship.
Thats all I have to say about that.

I never have questioned his commitment to win. Nascar has changed so much the last few years of competition, many drivers can win any given week now.

Do feel this year is his best chance, it's only going to get tougher, plus I don't think Gordon will be racing past age 40.

I think he's always had the commitment to win, but he does seem more focused now. If Burton can't win it, I'd like to see Gordon get another championship.

I must admit, I'm pretty impressed with Gordon's form thus far this year. He's really driving like a champion so far, even with the impending doom of fatherhood lurking!

But, as someone else pointed out, things can easily go the other direction. If I remember correctly, he started out pretty hot the year he missed the chase, too.
