I have an 11 week old Tortoiseshell kitten, and it seems like she's been bouncing off the walls nonstop for the past week! She used to sleep a lot more, but now she's incredibly hyper whenever I'm home. Her pupils dialate and her fur stands up; then, she attacks everything in sight and gets running so fast that she can't stop herself. I've never seen a cat run so fast in my life...she's a little furry blur!!! She almost hurt herself running across the back of the sofa and falling into a wall! She also won't snuggle with me as much as she used to. If I try to pet her, she'll assume I'm trying to play with her and start clawing/biting my hands. I do play with her....I roll her toys around and I have one of those "fishing pole" type toys (which she loves). I don't give her catnip and one of my friends suggested that tortoiseshells are much more active than other colors. I'm a first time cat owner and I'm concerned...please help!

She's a typical 11 week old kitten! They are full of boundless energy at this age. Tips for you: if she's getting really rambunctious and biting or clawing you, redirect her attention to a toy--NEVER use your hands as toys, or it becomes "OK" for them to bite you. If she is being REALLY bad, stick her in a room and close the door until she settles down some. Another tip would be to get another kitten. If this is not monetarily feasible, then don't, but if you have room and money to pay for vet bills for two, it will be a great thing for your little kitty to have a friend. They can wear each other out and keep each other company.

It really sounds fine, I wouldn't worry. Just keep her occupied and play with toys a lot...she'll eventually grow out of this behavior and become a typical lazy housecat, and you'll miss it. :-)

She is just acting like a normal kitten would. Kittens are very playful and sometimes they really do seem to be just a "blurr". In all actuality, when kittens play, they are honing their skills as hunters. Most animals use play to hone thier skills. You have nothing to worry about.
One thing I would suggest though, is don't let her use your hands as a toy. Keep using the toys she has along with the fishing pole, but if she tries to use your hands, stop the play and move away. If not, her whole life she will think your hand is a toy and you could end up having some seriouse scrachtes and bites. She will only get bigger and stronger and faster.
I am not trying to scare you. A kitten is a wonderful thing.
Enjoy your new friend.

Yeah, she's fine if she is doing all that. It's normal kitten behavior. My kitty was same. She's now 1yr and half. Still bounces around and hyper, but definitely has calmed down since I adopted her at 8-9 weeks. She is a mix.

Don't worry, she's fine. Just keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't injure herself. And if she bites you or claws you, wear gloves to play with her. That prevents scratches. I don't know much about this breed type, but yes, I think your friend is right about being an active breed. Lol. Good luck and congrats.

That's just kitten behavior. I am willing to bet you are out of the house a lot of the time causing kitten to get her sleep in while you're away. By the time you get back home, she is rested and ready to rumble. I would suggest investing in a laser pointer. Cats love to chase the dot as you shine it and move it across the floor. She'll run herself ragged and won't be as aggressive during play if she's getting enough stimulation.

Don't be concerned. It is normal kitten behavior. My 2 kittens are the same way. If I am out of the house for the day, as soon as I come home they sound like a herd of elephants running around. Since I am not home it is giving them time to sleep. They even run around and jump on me when I am sleeping. I'm just used to it since it happens so much.

Yes this is normal. Around that age set, kittens tend to want to explore more (like a toddler or kid would) and get to be more playful. If your worried, you can always take your kitten to a vet and I'm sure they would ansrew any questions you have. Just be sure to take saftey precautions around the house now seeing as kitty has a higher chance of getting hurt due to curiosity.

Torties are my favourites! As kittens they are extremely active - they are great hunters - but don't let her get away with "antisocial" behaviour. Ensure you are furniture training her - great sites like this can help -http://www.catscratching.com/

Remember she is just a baby full of the joys of life and it won't be long before she won't move out of that warm sunlit patch. She will not hurt her-self when playing, she is just testing her limits - and you are her playmate. When you come home from work she is treating you as a litter mate and she needs to burn of that energy. No need to be concerned, just enjoy.

Your kitten just misses you when you gone. When you get home, she just tries to impress you, and play with you. If you were around her a little more, she would be more calm, and snuggle with you more.
