I am a USC alumna - the school has numerous housing options for students with families, which is patrolled by campus security. I lived in university housing for 4 years and always felt very safe walking to/from campus. The school also provides a bus line that stops at most/near university housing locations and parking lots. Also, you can call the campus cruiser (a "taxi" service) to take you home (within a 3 mile radius) at night. If you prefer off campus housing, try the new lofts in Downtown LA. Also, nearby family friendly areas to look are Koreatown, Pasadena, Alhambra, Torrence, Burbank, Glendale, all with commutes of approximately 30 minutes or less. There are other nice areas but it would be a long/rough commute.

I don't know but check with the housing office and see if they don't have safe and secure married student housing close to the school...Be Careful, USC is kind of in a rough neighborhood....

If you can commute I would suggest the Valley. But if you have to live out there then check with the housing office and get a very secure building in the area.

If you need a house, consider Pasadena area. There is the Gold line metro (metro.net) and a number of cities along its line. I think you can get to USC from one of the metro lines. Traffic in LA is horrendous... so try not to drive :) Monrovia is a nice town too.
