I understand your question is sincere and I'll do my best to give a sincere and truthful answer.

I am a scientist, above all else. I am a seeker of truth and I abhor ignorant superstition. I do not allow myself to have beliefs or to have faith. These are self-deceiving rationalizations that, by definition, ignore the necessity of being factually true. Anybody can believe anything anytime because beliefs are not required to actually be the truth. It is absolutely impossible to discover a true fact, if one proceeds from a false premise, from faith. You insist that there must be some kind of faith I trust. I insist, if it were reasonable to trust in faith, I would. Can you see that this issue is mostly about how one thinks and the quality of evidence one is willing to accept as a true fact? If I were to attempt to become a true believer, I would have to discard truth and knowledge and become an unprincipled fool. I'd put a bullet in my brain before I'd discard the truth so I could accept your fictitious god. You imagine belief and faith are positive human qualities and I know them to be the root of all evil. If you read much history it's obvious that organized religion does far more harm than good.

Atheists don't believe in God by definition. As atheists, we do have faith. We just put faith in things that we can see, touch, and feel. We don't put faith in concepts and ideas such as God that can not be proven. We trust that with our good judgement and logic, we can choose the correct path to follow in life and lead a fulfilling and rewarding life. God has no hand in what happens in our lives nor in what will happen. There is no God at the end of our lives determining if we are worthy for Heaven or condemned to Hell. God is something that certain people believe in because they need to have faith in something that is "bigger" than they are so they feel secure, safe. The Bible is the best piece of propaganda ever written and frankly, I wish there were more conscientious atheists in the world. Too many people rely on religion to "forgive" their mistakes. However, they never considered that they should simply atone on their own and try to not make that mistake in the first place.

Like most of the other atheists who have responded, I do not believe in the Christian God because I don't think such a being could logically exist. As for having faith, sure I have faith in reasonable things like the sun rising tomorrow. This is faith based on prior experience, not blind faith.

I do not have any religious faith, because I do not think I need to have any. That's something that believers find hard to understand.

1)Because there is no scientific proof for one.

Bible is just a fake and nothing more and you must really read Da Vinci code and/or watch the Movie whilst parts of it are so far away from truth, it deffinetly says it all about bible that a human needs to know.

Just because we can't explain all in life it doesn't need to be about god! Many thousands of years ago people didn't know why the Lightning struck and the only way was to create a God - Zeus and many others for things they could not understand. Now we have one god because we can't explain only one thing - how did it all begin?

2)Because if he was the Almighty why he lets innocent suffer and killers walk the Earth with a smile.
A good example of it - is tsunami on boxing day in Asia - these people perhaps were suffering enough before it but now it's just a wreck, whilst prisoners get tortured by souless people in USA for what reason - well they don't need to have a reason since the American Patriot Act - if you look different you are good enough for torture

3)What has God done for me?
Given me life you may say... NO - my Mum did that with a little help from my father... made my dad an alcoholic and my step-dad beat up my mum... NO that is just Life and we follow it and people who follow God are the blind ones who choose not to believe the gruesome truth that life is mostly a dark sheet with a few tiny little white spots that sometimes make your heart light up.

I was raised as a Catholic and even went to a Catholic school for 1st through 8th grades. At some point or another in science class I was taught about evolution, it made a lot more sense to me than all the "magic" in the bible. Since then I've learned more and more about the history of our planet and the universe, it all makes more sense to me than the "poof" God created everything.
As far as faith goes, I don't have faith in a "higher power", I don't believe that one exists. Nobody has been able to prove to me that God exists. I believe the doctors and scientists that have experimented and researched and come up with definite, provable answers to my questions.
I do believe in my love for my wife and the wonderful experiences that we have together. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

Atheists don't think that God exists. For me, faith is something else entirely than believing in a God. It's trying to understand the nature of reality. When I use the word faith in relation to myself, it has nothing to do with faith as Christians see it.

Why do you think that I need to believe in a God just because you do, I could ask you why you don`t believe in Allah or any other type of God, or fairies or Santa Clause or elves or little green men for that matter. The reason that I personally do not believe in the existence of a god is that I have thought it all out, without someone else telling me what to believe and come to the conclusion that all religion is man made or invented by man, I know how totally illogical the whole concept of any religion is and therefore unbelievable.
I hope that answers your question.
Chris.

Accepting beliefs like going to Hell for loving someone and not doing harm to them (homosexuality)? Accepting beliefs like it being OK to pretty much kill a disobeying child? Accepting beliefs like working on Sunday (if I'm not mistaken) is worthy of being put to death? We may have been freed from the Old Testament, but many Christians sure don't act like that.

I don't trust in any faith. Why should I mindlessly believe in something that I have no way of knowing any kind of truth behind it?

I am not an atheist, but I don't believe in the christian god, mainly because I do not believe that god would speak to a person in particular and especially not to any of the popes.

Why do popes change their minds on some issues? Is it because god changed his mind or is it to better serve their church?

Also, given the violent history of the christian religion (crusades, Spanish inquisition, missionaries, etc...), I cannot possibly relate to this religion or any other.

Religions are one of the reasons why this world is as violent as it is.

I believe in the good of mankind, therefore I stay away from violent groups.
