Burning during urination is a sign of a urinary tract infection, but it's also a sign of a sexually transmitted disease.
Your doctor can take your urine and test it for blood and bacteria to see if it's a urinary tract infection. ( Usually only takes about 30 minutes at an urgent care .)
The sexually transmitted disease test has to be sent away to a lab, but most of the time they will give you the pills to treat it when you are there at the office, before they send the culture to be tested. That way if you have it you won't spread it. The treament is usually just a high dose of anti-biotics, and it's usually just one or two doses. If you have any puss whatsoever then it is most definitely an std.
Of course they will prescribe anti-biotics for a urinary tract infection also.
They will tell you cranberry juice helps, and it might, but I've always had great success from drinking V8 with "watrercress" listed as an ingredient. It's the watercress that helps.
Be sure to checked for stds anyway, even if your symptoms clear up.

First of all its nothing to be embaressed about these infections are extremely common especially in females, although i have had them aswell, you may experience stinging or burning on urination, needing to wee all the time, sharp pains in your urethra( wee tube) ,cloudy urine, pain or discomfort in bladder, the immediate urge to urinate sometimes you may not make it to the bathroom in time, odour in urine. Basically if you are experiencing any of these things go see your local female doctor, all they will give you is a course of antibiotics and you will be fine. Bacteria that climbs into the urethra, or a stomach bug, or yeast vaginal infection all cause urinary tract infections UTI's. Tips are: when going to the toilet always wipe from front to back cause their is a lot of bacteria around the anus, this is why girls are more prone to infections cause their urethra is closer to their anus, make sure you have safe sex, wash vagina with proper feminine wash from the chemist cause other soaps can cause agrivation and infection, drink lots of cranberry juice this coats the bladder and urinary tract making it harder for bacteria to live inside there, drink heaps of water. The sooner you go to the doctor the better , these infections have the tendancy to flare up, so dont panic if you get the symptoms again after treatment, a lot of women experience 4 to 5 UTI's every year. these infections are not life threatening but need to be seen by a doctor cause the infection can spread from your urethra to ur bladder and even to the kidneys so please dont be embaressed and seek some medical treatment today or tomorrow, hope that helps.

I think you might be thinking of a Urinary Tract infection...commonly known as a UTI. Some of the symptoms are painful, burning urinantion. Constant urges. When I have one I constantly feel like I have to pee but when I sit down nothing comes out. The BEST way to treat a UTI is to see a doctor, mine perscribes me an antibiotic that treats it with 4 pills (2 a day for 2 days). There are some over the counter treatments, but they just treat the symptoms, not cure the infection. Look in the feminie section of your pharmacy...one brand is AZO.
Good luck!!

When you urinate, you will feel pain or burning after it's done. You may also feel as if you have to continue even if nothing comes out. You may feel like you have to urinate a lot. Drink lots of water, and go get it checked out immediately because it you can start having blood in your urine. It just requires antibiotics.

Yes, you can tell if you have an infection. It is very painful thing to go through. If you see a little blood or any type of painful systom when you urinate, then I suggest you go to the hpspital ASAP to treat it because the pain gets alot worse if you think it will go away or you can take the pain. The more you lag on it, the more it will burn.

the most common symptom would be terrible pain when urinating. if you've had it for long, then u'll get a fever, feeling very tired..that kind of stuff.if it's severe u can even get loin pain.
easiest way to find out- check with the doctor, a simple urine test should do it.
