I am not aware of the train toilets in the UK having no bottom (so to speak). However, the draft of fresh air would be invigorating.
Try the train toilets in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma and even Thailand and that will cure you of the fear.

Yeah, it's fun for a man - you can stand there watching your pee bounce off the ground. Helps if the train is going really fast.
Also you know that the toilet definitely isn't going to be blocked.

Not on a British train. They all have trap tanks so if I could see the ground it would mean that the carriage was falling apart.

When I went to India the toilets are like that, there were 2 kinds, the sit down loos that had holes in the bottom that went to the track, and just holes in the floor. We chose the holes in the floor that went down to the track because the sit down ones were minging.

On some trains you will be able to see the ballast under you passing by, sometimes they come back into service so quickly that the floor drain has not been replaced.

Too right last train I was on you couldn't see the toilet let alone use it .

yeah definately - even better if you could seal it with your cheeks - then you might get some sort of vacumn effect.
