Scientology does not have a favorable view of homosexuality.
Here's a Wikipedia article on just that subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/scientology_and_homosexuality
L. Ron Hubbard, the "prophet" of Scientology, was homophobic to say the least.
In Hubbard's 1951 book Handbook for Preclears, he set out instructions for Dianeticists to "cure" homosexuality. After claiming that the cause of homosexuality was a fixation on a dominant parent of the opposite sex, he advised: "Break this life continuum concept by running sympathy and grief for the dominant parent and then run off the desires to be an effect and their failures and the homosexual is rehabilitated."
In Science of Survival: Prediction of Human Behavior, Hubbard argues that homosexuals should be segregated from the rest of society and institutionalized to prevent their illness from spreading to the rest of the population.
In Page 89-90, he writes:
"Such people should be taken from the society as rapidly as possible and uniformly institutionalized; for here is the level of the contagion of immorality, and the destruction of ethics...No social order which desires to survive dares overlook its stratum 1.1's. No social order will survive which does not remove these people from its midst."
At the time of the writing of Science of Survival, Hubbard did offer his own auditing process that allegedly would cure homosexuals of their sickness as an alternative to concentration camps.

Hello Clay,
I have studied Scientology for the past 8 years. The only reference to homosexuality is to say that it is non survival in the full sense of surviving. As a Scientologist I have spoken to many homosexual people, I understand that they feel the way they do. I know of such people that have and do study Scientology.
As with any ethics situation, in anyone's life. If it is affecting you or others adversely, you probably shouldn't be engaging in that activity.
Dianetics was written because a lot of people were asking Ron what he was working on. It is definitely written to be used. You could go purchase an old copy from a bookstore, read it, clear up any words you don't understand. Then find someone else who has read it and apply the principles together. Dianetics does not deal with the spiritual aspects of man but it does deal with a man or womans baggage. Dianetics is The Modern Science of Mental Health.

Like all churches and society Scientology has evolved on its points of view of homosexuality. Is true that in the Dianetics book the view on homosexual was low but this book was written in 1950.
In Scientology the greatest ability there is, is the ability to grant beingness; meaning accepting others the way they are with out criticism. So Scientology doesn’t discriminate against anyone.
And you second question is Yes. You can become a Dianetics Auditor and study Dianetics in a Church of Scientology and you don’t have to study Scientology.
The Dianetics books are red like Dianetics 55, Notes on lectures and The Science of Survival; the Scientology Books are blue in color.

The Church of Scientology doesn't have a "stance' on homosexuality. It's moral code does say "Don't be Promiscuous" , be faithful to your sexual partner.
It also describes the 2nd Dynamic as the urge to survive/exist thro Sex (Part A) and Family (Part B).There are 8 such Dynamics in all.
The book Dianetics describes the first 4 Dynamics.
And most definitely yes, use it for self help. That is the whole purpose of this book.
There is no "judging" involved in Scientology or Dianetics. It is for anyone who wants to improve some aspect of their lives, or handle some unwanted condition. But that is never evaluated by some one else. It addresses what you want to get rid of , not what you don't.
P.S. The reference given by Zer0 C00L is referring to people with a very specific fixed, chronic emotional tone . It is called covert hostility (1.1 on the Emotional Tone Scale)
These kinds of people will pervert every aspect of life not just the area of sex. So she has misinterpreted and misunderstood the meaning behind her quote and it is taken out of context from an entire book about emotional tones called Science of Survival.

I was a scientologist for 20 years.
Here is how it works... When you ask about homosexuality
a scientologists hears another question entirely..
He/she hears " what do I say to make this person keep
reaching for scientology ?"
In truth Scientologists consider gays to be abberrated.
Hubbard goes as far as saying that if society would benifit
from their extermination.
You`ll find it in guarded language in pre 1967 editions of
"science of survival." There is nothing to be gained from
the book Dianetics. The state of clear is very similar to the state of bankruptcy.
Getting to clear will cost you every cent you own.
The clear cognition is " I made it all up."
Just saved you all your money.

I AM a Scientologist and I can give you an answer a little less complicated:
So my views on Homos is that if you wanna do it then go for it but don't hit on me lol : )
And the church dosen't have a view in my opinion just that if you wanna be part of the chruch and you are gay that's fine as long as you're not causing problems or getting in to fights with people or something stupid like that but that applies to anyone of course! : ) Hope this helps!

I can't comment on the so-called church or it's views, but it's surely possible to read the book. I wouldn't hold out hope to get much from it, however. Do some digging on the history of L. Ron Hubbard. Supposedly he created scientology on a bet.
