Dear Marie,
You have asked a good question! Most people believe that "love" means to do nice things for an individual. But this is not God's definition. "Love" is wanting the highest good for a person. What is the highest good that a person can have? The highest good is to be saved or born-again. This means that the person who becomes saved will never face the awful judgment of God. That person is assured of eternal happiness in the presence of Jesus. That is why the Lord has commanded His children to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every person (Mark 16:15-16).
Those people the Lord has elected to salvation will hear His word and be quickened (born-again) according to God's will. We cannot get anyone saved. All we are to do is to give the true Gospel.
Also I wanted to ask you, what does it mean to love God? The Bible answers this question also. In John 14:15 God says, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." So we demonstrate our love of God when we are obedient to what He states in the Bible. If you read down in John chapter 14 to verse 21 we see the same thing. Also see Psalms 119.
I hope this helps you.

Marie...I do not think we automatically understand the concept of agape or unconditional love but it is the core of following Jesus. Like anything, it takes practice to learn and sometimes we have set backs. But I promise you, as you become more and more able to do it, the rewards are greater than any on earth. When you Love God, love all people and stop judging sins...its the real truth of freedom and true free will.

Jesus is inspired by Divine Love which is totally unconditional and is of God. Human love falls short of God's Glory because of our sinful nature.
We can try to love unconditionally and it works great until things are not going the way we want them to and then sin kicks in! Praise the Lord for His Forgiving Love! What a joy to be free!

This is a love that exist in us all, I think. The feeling of a need to wipe the hate out of yourself. The writers of the bible didn’t invent it. It was always in us and Jesus is, in many ways, a metaphor for that.

I don't think humans will ever fully comprehend the love of God, it being so great. But I agree, love is lacking and it is one of things i need to work on. You can not like people, but still love them.

I think forgiveness is a result of love. The love God was speaking of is an unconditional.

I don't believe that love has anything to do with Jesus in particular or religion in general.
People loved and hated each other before Christianity and they will love and hate each other when it is gone.

Love the person but hate the sin. I love all people but I hate the sins we all done. I am no better then you and probably worse but I know the Lord and he knows me.

I doubt people would ever understand that kind of love. Would anyone ever love someone like a child molester? Didn't think so.
