Actually, I've been doing a lot of work to quell the idiocy in my community and so forth, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the idiots aren't as plentiful as they appear (like on YA, for example)
Religion is dying out quicker than I had thought. In the last year, I've seen it lose ground exponentially, mainly due to the books and movies that have come out, forcing them to show their true colors. The Bush administration has contributed to this, as well. People are seeing the fruits of religious pandering, and illogical faith-based decisions.
It'll be okay. But I still think it's going to be close to 100 years before religion's buried for good.

I hope you dont mean all religious people because many do answer questions in a normal intelligent manner... I think you are just reffering to the really nutty ones, and if that is the case I know what you mean... they give me the heebie geebies with their crazy talk. They cant answer questions with anything other than scripture or as you said "god did it" "because the bible says so", etc etc. It is rather cultishly freaky. I have several family members who are in this category of religious fanaticism.. their poor children turned out so screwed up because of it, and the rest of my family basically avoids these mambers because they are just to brainwashed and try to push it on everyone else. Its sad, give the rest of believers a bad rep... not everyone is a religious nut tho... keep that in mind generalizations are dangerous things not everyone within a certain group can be categorized.

Sometimes a zest for belonging and wanting you to have the same feelings gets in the way of listening and responding. Most Christians do try and get the word out, but some just get a little overboard with trying to convince others. Religion is not bad, neither is believing - as long as there is always an open mind behind it. Same goes for others who try to discourage religion or belief in God. Why cut all religious ideas off? What does it hurt to listen?

i don't think of 2012 = the top of the particular international, yet fairly a substitute in information for all of humanity. Apocalypse potential to unveil, and that i think of 2012 will unveil to us a clean measurement. merely like a shadow is a 2 dimensional representation of a three dimensional merchandise, i think the international we are residing in now's a three-D representation of a 4d fact (or maybe consistent with possibility greater. some experiements in quantuam mechanics exhibits they are as much as 11 dimensions). the reason the Mayan calender resulted in 2012 is via the fact they could not see the 4th measurement. think of a shadow...you will get an theory of what the genuine merchandise is, yet not precisely. to illustrate, your guy or woman shadow on the top of the day the place apparently you're 15-20 feet tall. you have an theory of the genuine merchandise, yet surely it particularly is particularly diverse. that's what i think of the 4d would be like.

I used to live in California until recently - I had to move to Georgia for personal reasons. The land of the bible belt - no liquor sales on Sunday - most businesses closed because Sunday's a day of rest - 80% of the people go to church every Sunday, but never have I met people who are further away from God in the way they live their daily lives. They do what's proper, not what's right. And if you don't see eye to eye, then God help you.
God doesn't hate - I don't think He can, because He is pure love. How can all these people who profess to have God in their lives be so full of hate?
Yes, it freaks me out because of the big difference between who they are and who they THINK they are.

I would just like to say that you are entitled to your opinions, but opinions are not facts, on either side of this issue. Usually when someone lashes out at a particular person or group, it is because they have no REAL understanding of what that person or group really believes. Unfortunately for Christians, there have been a number of high profile examples recently of "falling from grace" so to speak, but really just making very poor decisions and having the consequences played out before the media because of their public positions and roles.
Christians are not exempt from making mistakes, just like everyone else, although some people would like to think that they are. I definitely do NOT agree with the millitant attitude of many religious organizations towards witnessing, or spreading the message to non-believers. All that does is serve to frighten people away from religion! My belief is that as a Christian, I should try to share my beliefs with others who don't believe, but in the end let them make the decision for themselves, whether or not to believe in it.
I just hope that people will someday learn to stop judging entire groups of people, whether by religious beliefs or race or whatever, based solely on the actions of a few who made bad decisions. In the end, there is only one person who is responsible for and must pay the price for their mistakes, and that is the person themselves.

Some of us can answer intelligently and know why we believe what we believe. You should not be astonished to find people of religious conviction on this forum.
Check out the electronics department or health and beauty..if you are uncomfortable here.
I hope that you will stay, however. We do have a little fun,in all of the confusion.

Relax, hon; we mean you no harm. Personally, I haven't seen any questions answered in the manner you describe. Yes, we quote the Bible--it is our holy scripture & our guide book. It's how we document what we believe. I don't understand why that's a problem, given the voluminous quotes from the koran that the muslims post all the time, quite often unsolicited--they "ask" a question in order to post their 'scripture'. Why is it that this doesn't freak you out

Put your theory to the test Mel, Is that not the "Scientific Method"? I challenge you to ask me a question to which my response will be guaged by the entire community. Then they can truly decide if your contention that "they can't seem to respond to a question in a manner other than cos god says so" is really a valid point.
Be forewarned though, that in addition to having religious beliefs I also am a member of MENSA which puts my IQ in the top 2% of the population. Just wanted to mention that in case you were trying to bias the outcome and want to find a "dumb" religious person to skew your results...
but you wouldn't do that would you? You're a scientist!
