He used to kill the people that didn't follow him. If god didn't kill them he sent someone else to do it.
Then all of a sudden, after Jesus, he went from "Follow me or die!" to "Follow me AND die."
But then again you had Christians killing Pagans, Muslims and Jews in the name of their god shortly after Christianity got big enough.
Maybe he didn't change at all....

The LORD is good. When trouble comes, he is a strong refuge. And he knows everyone who trusts in him. But he sweeps away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He pursues his foes into the darkness of night. Nahum 1:7-8

David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give all of you into our hands."
48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.

50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.

previous testomony God became only as wrathful and vengeful because the recent testomony God and vice versa. the version is that God formed a sparkling covenant with all of guy form by Jesus Christ. that is now no longer fully no longer achieveable to stay with God's regulations, and as such punishment and wrath were positioned on the backburner...for now. look into Revelation. the most wrathful we've considered God EVER.

A very careful study of the Old Testament poertion of the Bible - Some of it was the Hebrew God Yahweh, and some of it was the Hebrew God Elohim - One was a god that would appear in visions, as the other was a war god that would tell people to watch for signs from the heavens.

God in the old testament needed the people (Jews) to believe and follow only him. To do this he had to build up a nation from them and keep them in a strong faith in him.
This was to set the stage for Jesus who would die for the forgiveness of sins. This forgiveness would be for all people whosoever believed in him. They would gain eternal life; existence beyond that of our present day world.
As to Christian killing pagans and what have you; that is not the work of God but of man. God and Jesus have instructed us to love our neighbor as ourselves. We are to be kind and gentle with others, to serve as examples of living a Godly life.

As Christians we are of a new covenant, He did not die to do away with the law, but so we would have grace.
Noah led a whole bunch of people that went around a mountain for years, people are people, and it might take some of us 40 years to find the same spot, as some one who found it 40 years ago.

Are you aware of the grotesque nature of the nations that God destroyed? Are you aware of the temple prostitution? The child sacrifice? Look up their history and you'll find that archeologists finding hundreds upon hundreds of jars filled with the bones of the sacrificed children will say that the real wonder is that God didn't destroy them sooner.

i'd love to see an example when G-d killed people for not following him. the only times, in the bible, that G-d took the life of a person is because they had done something evil.
