Sometimes it's difficult to tell. Look at a few pictures of pit bulls and read about the breed information, and see if there are any similarities. Many dogs are mixed breeds. If you're really that interested, ask your vet and see if he or she can tell. And pits are very sweet dogs (in the right hands)...our last dog was a pit-beagle mix and was the most dear pup you ever did meet. Just because he may have pit bull in him doesn't mean anything bad will happen, nor did the old owners necessarily know for sure what he was mixed with. My advice: see the vet, ask him/her, and love the dog. That's the most you can do.

Many times with mixed breeds it is impossible to tell. Sometimes a dog with a pit bull parent looks nothing like a pit and sometimes dogs that have absolutely no pit in them look like a pit. You can sometimes make an educated guess by a dog's appearance but that is highly unreliable. The DNA test is the only way to be sure. I believe the DNA testing to determine a mixed breed dog's heritage is pretty new. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17080141/

There's no way to know for sure. There's a DNA test that you can buy, but it only tests for a few breeds, not all of them, and it costs something like $70 anyway.

The other problem is that "pitbull" isn't a real breed. Pitbull is used to describe dogs of up to 4 or 5 different breeds.

You can post a picture with the question and people here could tell you what they think.

You may never know. There are a lot of breeds thatlook like pits and are not. There is a lot of mixes that like like pit but have none in them. That is why pits are blamed for so many attacks when it was something else

The only way to know for sure would be to have DNA testing done. Most mixed breeds are such a Heinz 57 that you will never know without DNA.

P.S. Here is a link to a site that can differentiate using DNA up to 38 breeds.

Hard for me to say... but take him to your Vet and a pitbull has certain eyes and jowls and head shape that seem to *pop on thru* in a mixed breeding... please find out is the other side of your puppy has an agressive nature.. You may need to train accordingly -

GOOD LUCK

PS dna only matches mom or dad to the litter.... has not a thing to do with the breed hon
