Some of these answers are making me upset.

I firmly believe in Spanking your kids. Just don't go beating them by all means. But you know when all of us were growing up I'm sure we all had our fair share of spankings. So what on earth is the world coming to. In Oregon you are allowed to spank your child 3 times open handed.
There is no law on when to stop. My daughter is 7 and she still gets spankings if she was bad enough to deserve them.
Sometimes talking doesn't work and time outs don't work so what else is there to do?

I would say to just use your judgment on this one. I will probably stop when she is around 9 or 10.
I would check with your local police on the laws because people are getting more and more against the stuff that was done years ago. I would just be careful on when and were you spank your child.

i believe in spanking your children because it shows them discipline and you mean business, most likely all these parents who answered your question with they don't believe in spanking their children probably don't have manners either, i have 2 daughters the oldest is 3 and always says yes ma no sir, thank you. please, and excuse me and my youngest 18 months first word was thank you and when she started walking i taught her excuse me because she is so short people cant see her walking around, they only way i get my 18 month old to listen to me is pop her on the behind to get her attention to listen to me and my 3 year old gets spanking sometimes and sometimes i make her stand in the corner depending on what she did wrong and something she gets both, and for all you out there Spanking is not against the Law and there is a different between hitting and spanking your children............ that is what is wrong with the children now day no one believes in spanking any more, i got some when i was younger and i am glad i did, i am a better person for it and so Will me children be, will soank my children untill the learn not to be bad then they want need on around 9-10 is a good age

I have never spanked my son in 5 years. And I was as a child. That isn't what made me who I am.
He KNOWS what is right and wrong. Me spanking him isn't going to tell him that.
I don't have issues with him. I mean maybe I got lucky with what I got. But I don't feel the need to.
I can see why some parents may but from experience I don't like the thought that.
And to my son has more manners than you can imagine. People tell me all the time he is so good. And I wouldn't change the way I raised him.
I teach him as well as any parent should.

I belive spaking should not be an option.
Children don't obey and listen but that is because they are Children and are trying to find themselves. Instead let them know what they did was wrong and help them understand the fact.
Lead by example and show love in the process.

I don't believe in spanking your children, but I would say to stop at age 9. You should be able to decide this on your own.

By "spaking" I assume you mean "spanking." How about using the spell-checker?

And my answer is that parents should stop before they even have children.

Hitting your child won't teach it anything except that you are violent and that violence is a good response to have when people disappoint you.

Well just don't ever do it in front of anyone after the age of 7 or 8. It starts to embarrass them depending on your child's temperament. I'm 28 now and I still wish my parents didn't try to embarrass me every chance they got. It really messes with your self-esteem. Although sometimes if they are particularly bratty, you can drag them out of the store by their ear. That's always funny to watch.

spaking, or spanking?

Age 7

I myself am against hitting kids at all. I think discipline is teaching kids what to do, not just telling them what not to do. Hitting doesn't teach them what to do.
