Call your local police and find out. I'm surprised the NRA doesn't post something for this. They're so big on safe gun use yet tossing out bullets could very easily end up in a crime investigation if not properly disposed of.

Cops, schmops. Send them to me UPS ground. I'll be happy to dispose of them for you. ;-) I'll even pay the shipping charges.

Point of information - bullets from loose cartridges in a fire don't 'go' anywhere, the cartridge just kind of 'pops its top' like a firecracker. That explosive force can be dangerous if you're too close, but the bullet won't go flying at hundreds of feet per second unless the cartridge is constrained in a tube allowing that force to build up pressure.

you should at think of that in some ways you are endangering children by throwing them in the garbage and what if someone accidently lights a fire in the garbage and what would happen to those bullets and who, what it hits.

Yes, you should be VERY uncomfortable just tossing them in a garbage can! NOT a smart thing to do!

Call your local Police Dept or Sheriff's Dept and ask them to take them. If they won't (and I don't know why not), then take them to a local gun shop or shooting range and see if they'll take them.

The PD or SD should take them for you, though.

They are a dangerous explosive.

Go to the local Police Department and ask them to dispose of them. People do it all the time, it is a safe way to dispose of it.

Most police departments and sheriffs departments can handle this for you. They will also happily take old weapons off your hands neither of which should be disposed of in the trash.

Turn them into your local police station. They can use them for monthly target practice.
