A Hazleton man was assaulted by several teens apparently on their way home from school Thursday, city police said. Police are investigating an assault involving weapons — witnesses called it a stabbing — in the area of Fourth and Lincoln streets Thursday.

According to Hazleton police, 23-year-old Craig Mason of Hazleton was assaulted by several Hispanic males. Mason was treated at Hazleton General Hospital for his injuries, police said.

A witness at the scene said 17 or 18 Hispanic teens believed to be on their way home from school were involved in the assault on Mason, who was driving south on Lincoln Street at the time. According to another person who witnessed the confrontation, Mason tried to drive down Lincoln Street but was blocked as the large group of teens refused to move off the street to allow the car to go by. The witness said the male driver got out of his car and said something to the group.

For one thing - too bad the guy got beat up, even worse they took him to Hazelton Hosp for treatment - poor man hope he made it.

What people do not understand is that Hazelton is not a metropolitan -- we are talking about a place where people go to be AWAY from this kind of violence. You're right - we don't know that they were illegals, but with all the gang violence and illegals working their way out Allentown (they trashed Allentown - time to find a new place) it's just a crying shame that people cannot live in a little podunk Pocono town and be safe.
I applaud their attempts to stem illegal immigration problems in their community - now if only the rest of the country would take up the rod and carry on!

I don't know if those are legally or illegally here, but from the testimony at the courts, gang elements have pretty well taken over this small, once peaceful town. Since a number of the most violent type crimes were committed by illegal immigrants recently, the Mayor felt something had to be done.

A teenage hispanic kid was severly assaulted in the backyard of a home where he was attending a party. This was in Houston,Tx.He was beaten by at least 2 teenagers who yelled racial slurs at him. He was also sodomized with objects. The teen was seen laying in the back yard the next day. The family of the home waited 3 to 4 hours before calling for help because the teen had not moved.
Guess what the naive parents of the injured youth stated. 'We thought that type of discrimination did not exist anymore"
