Are you in UK?

My Grandmother was in the Women's Voluntary Service in the Second World War, and she says they were each given one at the end of the war - the V standing for Victory.

I dont' know anything about a 'V'. The Romans referred to the letter 'V' as the number '5'. It could have meant five offenses or five murders.

If you're referring to Jesus then there was no 'V' but there was "INRI" which is Roman for "King of the Jews". However, the Greeks and other Orthodox Christians portray the sign on Jesus' cross as "ICXC" which means "Jesus Christ, Conqueror."

I agree with Neb.

Five, or V, is the number of wounds that Christ received on the cross. It symbolizes sacrifice.
