As the owner of 6 GSD's
Since you are athletic get yourself a German Shepherd Dog (gsd).
Check out the pedigree and talk to the breeder to let them know what size you are after.
Besides running you may wish to become involved in Schutzhund which is tracking/ obedience/agility & protection work... it is a great competitive sport for the dog lover who is a sports fanatic... lol

A whippet is slightly smaller than a greyhound but would be a good running dog and stay within your weight limit. They are known for being calm in the house. A springer spaniel may also be good choice as long as you are committed to exercising every single day (even on your off-running days). Border collies same thing - high activity dog - would need to run every day.

There are so many wonderful dogs. Check the AKC for breed information:
http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm?nav_area=breeds
Please do check your local shelter and see what dogs they may have available. If you aren't interested in breeding or showing, there are so many good dogs that need homes.
If you have a good shelter in your area, they can tell you about the temperament and character of the dogs they have available for adoption.
Have fun looking, it's a big part of the process!

Below you will find a link to a quiz that will help you find the types of breeds that are right for your living space and excercise needs. Also, I would suggest checking the local shelters, there are so many dogs who would love a chance to go run with you!
Good luck!

How about a Standard Poodle? These are not the tiny little Fifi's that hang about your ankles, no, Standard Poodles are hunting dogs. Great jogging partners. If you can't stand the idea of regular grooming, how about a Labrador Crossbreed? A regular Lab might get too heavy, but a crossbreed might work. And a Lab is famous for friendly canine behaviour.

It all depends on what you want in a dog. Do you want a shedder or nonshedder, guard dog or not, companion, loyalty, grooming, etc. If you go to this website address that I give you it will have you take a quiz to see what you are looking for in a dog and it will give you ideas of what breeds would be good for your lifestyle. Doesn't mean that's what you would get but it might help.

A Greyhound as long as you're willing to run with him daily. They are pretty lazy dogs most of the day, but need daily exercize. They can be found under 70 pounds. (Mine weighs 76, but females can weigh as little as 55 and males as much as 90.)
They're peaceful, quiet, gentle animals. Work with the rescue group to find an individual that is right for you.

Choose perhaps a poodle, a miniature. Or maybe even a cavalier king charles (very sturdy) the best would be a bedlington terrier. DO NOT get a grayhound...contrary to popular belief, what these dogs like best is to relax, I know as I have one, and he, as mnay ohters just likes to eat and sleep, and only goes for walks 2 times a day. Any sort of long lgeed terrier would be good.

I vote a boxer! Boxers are a wonderful breed of dog. They love to be indoors, but like it outside too. They aren't demanding to go outside but are more than willing to go when you would like.
Very playful and active, so I know they would love to run with you. Yet inside they are a big baby and a major lap dog. SUPER breed of dog.

whilst puppies breed, the male puppy anchors himself within the feminine puppy. When the male breeds the feminine, he types two gigantic knots alongside his penis. That maintains him from slipping out of the feminine. Once the puppies are 'caught' (it is truthfully referred to as 'tied'), the male frequently climbs over the feminine at the same time nonetheless 'caught' they usually grow to be butt to butt. This is an historical intuition that they're following. Wolves used to do that considering whilst they're breeding, they're in a inclined role in which they are able to with no trouble get attacked. If they're going through butt to butt nonetheless, they actually have a suite of tooth on each ends and are greater competent to guard themselves from enemies. They will keep 'tied' like this frequently as much as 20 mins. Do no longer attempt to separate them for the duration of this time, as one or either one of them may also be injured. When they're performed breeding, they'll unencumber on their possess. I do trust one of the vital different humans. At your age and no longer understanding something approximately breeding, you almost always must no longer be doing that!
