Do you mean Northern California (bay area) or NORTHERN California? North of SF in the Sacramento Valley there are primarily muni courses, but you may want to check out Mount Shasta resort. It's a fun mountain course. You can always find lots of great golf in the Lake Tahoe region during the summer. Try Coyote Moon in Truckee instead of Edgewood in Southshore. Check out the site.

I recommend Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif. It is a top shelf resort right in the middle of the Calif wine country. For years it played host to a Champions Tour event called the Transamerica Chamiponship .. not sure if it is still host to a pro event or not. They have 2 golf courses that you will love. Also, Johnny Miller lives very close by.
