Different areas pay differently. The money is MEANT to house, feed, clothe, etc. the child. I know the Foster System, and most people spend the money on themselves. As a furniture/appliance store owner, I have seen the Foster parents walk out with all the most expensive furniture and appliances, while the children are dressed in hand me down rags. When I took a particular child in, for whom I DID NEED extra money to spend on her..........I took the money, all of it, and spent it on her clothing and makeup that she needed to feel good about herself. She came with nothing, and the Foster people did NOT allow me the EXTRA $200 for her clothing needs. Someone else had used the money, and NOT bought her a thing.

Why are you asking? Fostering is not about making money. I am not accusing you of being money hungary or anything...guess I am just going to use your question to talk to other people. If people actually think about getting into foster care to make money, DON'T! You do get an okay check each month (I foster through the state of SD) but the pain, heartache, and things along those lines. We get paid about 59 cents an hour. But we don't do it for the money, we do it for the chidren!

Depends on where you live, whether it's a public or private agency and the type of care the child is receiving. If the child has major special needs, then the monthly reimbursement may be more.

In the DC Metro area, I have heard of people getting $1100-1400 a month for each child.

Why do you need a second income? LOL. It depends on which state you live in. Contact the proper agency to find out.

People are answering cruelly. I've wondered the same thing myself, not to see how much money "I can make" but because we have lots of love in our home, but not lots of money. Maybe we want to be there for more kids, but are worried that we can't afford it without also receiving some extra money for food, rent, clothing, etc. Shame on the previous answerers who assumed this guy is just out to make money!

It depends on where you live and whether the agency you go through is private or government funded.
