My boyfriend didnt make any plans for my 40th birthday. He waited until that day and said "Well, we will do anything you want to do". I had friends calling me wanting do do things and I told them I couldnt because he told me a week prior, that he was taking the day off to spend with me. I assumed he had planned things. My feelings are hurt because I dont feel he put forth any effort at all.

i think that it is cool that he told you that you get to pick what you want to do. obviously this guy is no romantic and you should have seen that in him when you two first got together. if you want that kind of romance in your life i suggest you go out and find someone new who likes to do that kind of stuff

If you want to be mad, then be mad. If it were I in your place and my big 40 was approaching, I would have a huge bash and ask for friends assistance. You are your own person and know what you want, so why would you wait for him to do something. Just b/c he stated he was spending the day with you doesn't mean you can't go ahead and plan a party. He would be there with you no matter what you ended up doing. Maybe you wanted him to plan something for you and are disappointed that he didn't? That's no reason to be mad at him. He did spend the day with you, by taking a day off of work and did whatever you wanted. If you sit around waiting for others to do something, you will be disappointed...why not just do what you want to do in the first place and avoid any future disappointments. Happy belated 40th to you! Hope you had some fun at least! If you did, then focus on that and not being angry...just a waste of energy!

I wouldn't say he didn't plan anything, he planned a day off!!! Maybe he thought that was the best thing to do - give you anything you want. I think it's quite cute, although I can see that if you were expecting something fully arranged it might be a little disappointing.

Men arent into details, understand that. However your right, he should have made the effort, or at least ask you before hand what you wanted to do.

You can have one or two feelings about his lack of planning.
One, get over it and remember that he took a day off, special, to be with you.
or
Two, stay bummed and complain to your friends.

I would choose to to get over it and go on being in love with my boyfriend.

The best way to deal with birthdays is to foget them. My birthdays have always been terrible.

YES YOU SHOULD BE HURT. CONSIDERING HOW IMPORTANT THAT DAY IS TO YOU AND HE DISREGARDED THAT BY NOT PUTTING ANY EFFORT OF MAKING IT SPECIAL FOR YOU.
MAYBE ITS A SIGN OF WHERE YOU STAND IN HIS LIFE.
ITS TIME FOR REALITY CHECK
