it seems every time some people are confronted with certain horrible acts in certain scriptures, they respond "that was in the old days".
Does that mean we've evolved?

Culture has surely evolved. So now we reject slavery. But still abhor gays and take rights from them.

Cultures have evolved over the years and certain things changed as far as what's moral and what's not -- but I think people still had consciences there has always been the deep understanding of right and wrong.

Yes, we have evolved morally. No, human beings have always had a conscience of some kind it's the content of the conscience that has changed.

I don't think that I ever saw anyone respond that way. Could you cite some examples?

Maybe they were implying that circumstances were different back then, and that people were making the best choices that they could given the limited options that they had.

Yes, they also say the OT doesn't apply anymore. So why doesn't God erase it? And what's so "kind and loving" about cannibalism (I mean communion) in these days?
