My employer did give me a form so that it would not be deducyed, but my first pay cheque was paid to me before the form had been processed.

If you are in f/t education and only and I really mean ONLY work during school holidays, then you should have been asked to complete a form P38(S) which means your employer does not deduct tax as a full time student.

However, this not being the case, they should operate the standard tax free allowance code of 503L X, which allows you to earn approx £96 p/w before paying tax. This code does not take into account previous weeks in the year, so if you have had tax taken and your total earnings between 6 April 2006 and 5 April 2007 are below £5035, send in your P45 leaving certiifcate and/or P60 if you work before 5 April, to your local HM Revenue & Customs office, with a letter claiming the tax back. This will then be dealt with asap and a cheque sent to you.

As you are in full time education the chances are that you are due a tax refund. I suggest to contact http://www.TAXFIX.co.uk who can get this tax back for you from the government.

If you earn over 5035 pounds then you will have to start paying tax but only income over this amount. I would definitely check it out as I am sure you do not want to be paying any more tax, because we pay enough as it is.
