I am not sure that comment was correct. A world without plastics would be a totally different world. There are commercials today that give a pretty good idea where we would be without them :) Hope this clears it up.

Composite technology is made out of caviar and polycarbonate material. Also important that each cell is honeycomb shaped, because structure is extremely strong. After composites are cured in an oven in a desired shape, that shape is stronger then steal, yet extremely light weight.
Disney monorail trains are made of the material. Stealth bombers are made of the material.
Composite material also absorbs radiation, hints stealth bombers. The most important reason other then the fact that stealth is important, the fact that it is super light weight, and helps stealth bombers use less fuel to fly further and faster.

Plastic commonly refers to polymers, which are just long chains of atoms connected to each other. The first polystyrene (styrofoam) cup was developed in 1959. Commercial use of plastics dates back at least 150 years.

I thought composite plastics were replaced by Transparent Aluminum.
