A plantar wart is an ordinary wart, like the ones you get on your hands, etc. The only difference is the location. Since there's so much pressure on your feet, it tends to go in instead of out.

You can try the over-the-counter treatments, but if that doesn't work, see a doctor. He can use several different treatments to remove it - freezing it, burning it with a laser, or scraping it, or a combination of these.

They can be stubborn, so keep an eye on it. My wife needed at least 3-4 treatments to deal with hers.

One effective treatment is go to a dermatologist and have the doctor laser off the wart. Typically, the plantar warts are too deep to be treated with OTC treatments. There are a multiple treatments with the laser to reduce the wart.

You have to go to the doc to get rid of them usually. Warts are caused by a virus so there is no way to really prevent them or keep them from spreading.

Question 1: see your doctor for some wart creme. I know this sounds weird, but if it's a bad case, they'll prescribe genital wart creme in some cases because of its strength.

Question 2: warts are caused by a virus. if these are recurrent, see your doctor to ask about prevention.
