Yes it is ok. However,if you do only have one budgie, you are going to need to be around it alot. Petsmart suggest you spend atleast 1/2 hour a day with your bird, but I would recommend more. Remember that being around your bird and doing something else (ie going on yahoo) is good, but there should also be some time when your focused on the bird.

If you can't be home often, see if someone can interact with the bird. If you are gone for long periods of time, consider putting on a radio (my budgie loves it).
Also, include toys and food to occupy your bird.

Here is some great info about budgies, and there is also a small section about the # of birds:http://www.justbajan.com/pets/birds/species/budgies/index.htm

GL!

If you want the budgie as a friendly pet and be able to have it sit on your hand and shoulder, it's best to have one, it'll think of you as it's buddy. If the budgie has been alone for awhile, don't assume you can just get another one and put them together. It doesn't always work. Not all birds like other birds, even birds of their own kind. As long as the bird has plenty of room in the cage, a wide selection of different foods and fresh veggies, TOYS they love their toys.

Absolutely. But only if you give it plenty of love and attention. My Budgie lives alone but is very happy. You should make/buy her some interactive toys, especially ones that make noise (Mine loves a small bell). Also, when you leave the house you might want to turn on a radio somewhere near her onto some music station so she has noise to keep her busy.
You might want to also crack a window so she can hear the birds outside (if it's warm enough).
Another thing. If you don't have any cats or dogs, let her out once in a while. We don't clip our budgie's wings, just so she can fly around freely sometimes. Just make sure that there aren't any dangerous areas in your house or exits. We have 4 cats, and still let her fly around sometimes, but all our cats are declawed and can never catch her. I would still strongly reccomend that if you have cats, put them in a room while you budgie flies around.
Just make sure you keep her company, and she'll be just fine.

It is fine, yes. He might become lonely though if you work all day or go to school. Unless you can attend to his needs I would get another one to keep him company. When I got my first budgie I felt so horrible leaving him alone all day I brought home a friend for him! He does not bond with me as much now, but he is much happier now that he has a friend to spend his days with. He needs someone to preen his head!

Yes fine, i had 2 budgies but one died, the other 1 was fine on its own. But after they have been on their own for a while, its best not to intriduce another bird as they may fight.

If you spend enough time with it, sure. he/she will need lots of toys and a large cage to keep it entertained. I would try to avoid mirrors, no matter what people tell you. People will tell you that a bird is too smart to bond with it's own reflection. But i have seen it happen. Anyway, back to your question. Generaly, Parakeets like the company of another bird, but like I said, it's fine.

It will be fine. Just pay attention to it a lot, and make sure it has lots of toys. If you're not worried about it liking you, you can add a mirror, but that can make them aggressive (thinking it it's mate) so only do that if you never have any intention of making it a social bird.

Sometimes it's safer. I have one who cannot be trusted with companions. To make up for this they need more attention from their human friends, of course.
