Hey, I am 18 and really want to see the world.....at first I was terrified of the cheap thought of staying in a £10 a night room with other people...I thought if I travelled long enough they may try and murder me. Anyway I am over that movie influence.......say I was to save for 6 months what else would I need to do? For exampl flights, insurance, what else? I am thinking of going to NYC,Thailand, Tokyo,Australia, Los Angeles,Maldives

You need to decide where you are going and what it is you want to do and see there. Plan a basic budget, get any shots you need, get a backpack, decide what clothes you need (not want). You might want to check out Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree website to get ideas from other travelers. Find out about public transportation in the places you want to go. Then go and have a great time.

Make sure you get insurance from a specialist that will cover backpacking and long term travel.

Squaremouth is a comparison site that has an option to select backpacking cover and also any other specialist cover.

make sure youre up to date on any vaccinations you need. i know youre sticking to primarily industrialized countries, but you should check with your doctor to see if theres any shots you need for any other places you might go.
