I have a tattoo on my ankle that I've had for about 6 months now. It's a cross and I'm not too happy with it and I wanted to get a different shape cross put over it.
I was just wondering, it doesn't hurt more to get it done over does it?
I wouldn't think it did but I'm not sure what the affect of the ink on top on the ink does to the inside of your skin.
Has anyone ever had a tattoo redone that could let me know what to expect?
Thanks!!

It's basically an all black outline of a cross and I just want an all black cross but another design.

When I had an old tattoo covered up, it didn't hurt anymore than the first time I had that spot done. I only recommend that you do your research about the artist. Some of them specialize in covering up tattoos and can guide you to something that will work. Others claim they can cover up a tattoo with whatever you like, and that doesn't always work so well. The better artists will have a portfolio of their work, including before and after shots of the cover ups.

It won't hurt any more than the first time. Make sure you go to a quality artist and verify the re-work he is going to do. You can't cover a tattoo so the original design will need to be embedded. If you have a chump do the work, you will just end up with a bigger tat that you still don't like.

I got a tattoo on my shoulder of my NOW ex husbands name. Before I married my second husband I wanted to get rid of it. So I had a cover up tattoo. Looks great, didn't hurt. Felt like a regular tattoo, and the best part, YOU would NEVER know that it said a name before. Go to a tattoo parlor and ask for advise. They'll be able to come up with a design that will be best for covering it up. Good luck to you.

I have had a tatoo redone and Yes it does hurt a little more than the original because they have to go over scar tissue. Mine turned out ok but it took about 2 times over to get the colors to blend well. good luck

Talk to a tattoo artist, maybe it's better to get the cross you have touched up. If you try to get a cover up it will probably have to be all black.

whew..I am glad it's a black outline ..yeah they will just use black again and redo it and it should not hurt much more than it did the 1st time...maybe a little....ive heard it both ways actually...so it comes down I guess to the individual...now that it will be your second time you may not be as aprehensive and that may make you think it doesnt hurt as much ...at any rate it sounds like your a perfect candidate for a redo.

Good luck sweety

It's hard to redo a tat because of the colors and stuff. You may have to go with something all black. I had my back redone and I had to go over it with all black. It does not hurt any worse either. Go talk to an artist, they can help you with something and tell you more options.
