Is sun necessary to make sun tea?

I have heard that putting Sun Tea to "brew" in the sun is an unnecessary step. Rumor has it that it will steep regardless of where you put it and that it will turn out just the same even if you put the container in the dark. Is this true?

If you want TRUE "sun tea" it must be in the sun! Yes you can put it where you like, but for it to really have that true summer sun taste tea, you must! You can now even buy a machine, like a coffee pot to make cold iced tea, they even sell ice tea bags that you dont have to even make it hot, just cold water & tea bag. Then there is instant too. It just depends on the taste you are looking for. Some people enjoy all those wyas. But ask me, which you---go for the real thing baby!

Technically if you don't use the sun to brew the tea then it's not sun tea. You can put your bug jug in the fridge, but that's just typical tea-steeping.

The bags will brew anyway but the hotter the better. I make tea the simple way. I use two family size bags. I heat 1 quart approx of water. Pour it in a plastic pitcher with the tea bag dangling. Then wait....how long is visual...check the tea.
Then I add 1 quart of cool water and I am done.

It is true you can leave it anywhere. I usually leave mine overnight in the fridge. It will brew faster in the sun because of the heat. Heat make tea steep faster.

You can brew it anywhere but in my experience it tastes better when brewed in the sun.
