I think the real question here is not how many days you can skip before you're failed but why you feel the need to skip.

Every year millions of kids skip school or drop out altogether. But there are vitally important reasons for you to stay in school. Dropouts are less likely to have jobs, more often dependent on welfare, and more likely to end up in jail. Did you know that two-thirds of the U.S. prison inmates did not finish high school?

It’s important to ask yourself why you feel the need to skip school, are there reasons for your not wanting to be there? If it’s a one-time thing, it can just be for the thrill of breaking the rules. But when it’s routine, maybe something else is happening. Are you the victim of bully, are you having a problem with a teacher or are you just bored? Have you skipped a few times and it’s just become a habit?

Do you have a counsellor at school that you can talk to? How about a parent or another close relative? Someone who can help you to find out why you do not want to go to school? Talk with someone because school is of major importance in your life and if you don't have a proper education, you are dependent upon the world for your well-being. And independence is something we are all striving for and need. Good luck!!

Go read what Wise Guy said about education because that's what I was going to say but he did a great job.

That said again, your question depends on your school district. Every district has different rules. What tend to be similar is that at some point well before you reach the critical total number of absences they usually send a letter home to the parents. (Here they send that between 10 and 15 days missed.) That letter let's parents know the situation, how many absences are excused and how many aren't, and what is going to happen if this continues.

Most districts will send a second note home when you get closer to the critical number. That note usually includes a conference time for the parents to come in and review the record. That meeting will involve going over the enrollment record and the academic record of the child. If the child still has a chance to pass the courses, they'll come up with a plan to make that happen. And they'll warn the parents that too many more absences will result in failure of the grade.

A lot of school districts have a critical number of absences. Once that number is reached it may not matter if you have straight A's, you still fail and repeat the grade.

Of course all this is barring catastrophic events that would require you not being in school. Think major hospitalizations. But usually when those happen the district requires a plan for homework as soon as they know about the event.

You have to call the school and ask that. Every school has different policies on how many days you are allowed to miss. If there is a medical problem or a death in the family or some other sort of crisis causing you to miss school they usualy can work something out if you get all your work from the school and turn it in everyweek.

Unless you are out sick you should not miss much school. Why don't you go to the school office and ask the attendance officer?

Get focused and get back to school.
