Vista can handle most products you just need to get the driver for your product off of the companies website, just do a search for the brand and product and you shoud find it in a google search then go to support and drivers and go to the product and follow instructions. If you have the latest and their is no plan on updating the firmware for your product it is best to buy a new one.

Don't go out and buy a scanner unless you are sure it will not work with Vista. I had the same problem with mine.
Try scanning from the Paint program that can be found in the accesories folder.
Open the Paint program and click file. Be sure you plug in, hook up, and turn on your scanner before you do this. When you click file, you should see " From Scanner or Camera " listed in the menu.
Click on that and you should be able to import things that you scan.
I have an HP scanner, faxer, and copier and I got very upset when it would not work with Vista, so when I contacted HP that's when the technician told me to do and it works, but the really nice scanning and editing software that came with the scanner is not compatible with Vista, so I am stuck using paint.
I don't think I'm alone in saying that the unfair and dishonest business practices of the Microsoft Corporation are starting to grow very tiresome.
Every time a new operating system or upgrade comes out, nothing works with it, and it's almost as if they are doing this on purpose so everyone has to spend more money to buy more products that their industry can make a profit from it.

Just about anywhere. Just make sure when you are looking to check and see that its Vista ready. A lot of people are having the same problem.

Vista should be able to handle just about anything. If your scanner is USB connected, try uninstalling it, restart, then reinstalling.
