Fossilization can occur in thousands rather than millions of years given the right conditions. Mineral absorption can start within decades according to a long term survey of modern bones in Amboseli National Park (see below). In general, the time it takes to fossilize something is not why there are so few fossils, it is the conditions it takes to fossilize something.

Note that this has nothing to do with anything relating to religion. Deep time and evolution would both survive even if fossilization were instantaneous. Genesis is still wrong.

Depending on the soil, climate and minerals of the area, It takes approx 1.8 million years for bones to become fossilized.

The time can vary radically, depending on conditions. The process requires the presence of moisture containing dissolved salts, especially calcium.

Less than a year when under water, i have a pertrified acorn at home, i put in a glass of water a year ago....

and a leaf fossilized into my carport in under a year, it doesn't take that long, when under water or wet....

It depends on a few things other then just age:

the climate
land
whether erosion took place, etc,etc
