I saw some at a funeral home (the birds were the best part of the day) that were, I think, brown and white with these beautiful purple marks on their heads and some other really colorful ones. The funeral home director said that some of them are society finches and other than that he didn't know. I live in Arizona and am willing to drive toward Tucson or Phoenix to buys some beauties if you have any suggestions. Cheap would be great too!!! :) Thank you!

There is a breeder out here in Mesa, AZ that keeps her Gouldian finches outside - but they are I think $50-125 each depending on coloration. I was thinking a little cheaper than that. :)

We had zebra finches a few years ago and loved them, their songs and their constant supply of babies - we kept our small town pet store very well supplied, but when we did the cross-country move we gave them to some friends. We never had any fatalities in 4 years of keeping them. Yeah!

If you want colorful try Gouldian finchs, they look like they fell into a painters palet, red, black, blue, purple green, yellow all on one bird. There not cheap but they do have a wonderful song. When you are looking directly at them and they sing it will sound like it's coming from behind you, in the wild they use this to confuse predators.

Gouldian finches are very delicate. They require special suppliments to keep them fully feathered and need to be watched for air sack mites. They are beautiful, but hard to keep.

Societies are a little stronger breed wise and zebra finches are always fun! They are gray, white and orange.

Do some research on the keeping requirements of any bird before you purchase one.

I don't know alot about finches but I once considered getting a group of them (my roommate didn't like the idea.)

Here it NY it seems to be that they vary from $10 - $200 depending on the kind of finch. Here is a place to check out info about raising finches as pets. From my experience however, the more colorful the markings, the more they cost.
