Let's put it this way:
People only regret the things in life that they wanted to do but never did, not the things they had to do but didn't want.

This is one of those 'crossroads' life changing decisions that we all make on becoming adults, and even then.
The person who has a career that they love and can support themselves at the same time is a lucky person indeed. But that is the very rare person.
You have to support yourself. Do you take a job you hate just because it pays well? This is called the 'golden handcuffs', you devoted so much time, energy, and money into a job you end up hating but you can't quit. Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Accountants, Pilots, Architects, etc. have this problem all the time.
Do you take a job you love and can do very well, yet doesn't pay very well? You can't afford to date? You can't afford to get married? You can't afford to travel? You can't afford the toys in life like a car, boat, house, clothes, and the like?
Athletes have this critical decision all the time. Do I devote my youth in training to get the Gold Medal in the Olympics? And if I get the Gold Medal, what then? I'll be an unemployed athlete!
You need to sit down somewhere and weigh your options. Get a cup of coffee or orange juice and think this thing out. We all went through it. What am I going to do with my life? What sacrifices am I willing to make. Do I go to Hollywood and sell my soul like some of these actors and actresses and might end up with nothing?
And only you can make the final decision.

you have time. you can always change your mind or go back. just don't screw up school. if you're not ready take time off. if you're ready, cool! :)
do what you love. honestly makeup artists can make damn good money if theyre good at it. i'm not sure where you live but in l.a. it's very easy to get jobs. network. meet people. you can get hooked up, esp if you're good. i know people with moderate talent who get hooked up, and people with exceptional talent who just don't get out & market themselves.
just focus on learning as much as you can and becoming valuable. i would even work for FREE (on a project that was getting me somewhere of course. if it was something like, makeup for a bridesmaid i'd sure as hell charge) if you can develop a portfolio. once you have a portfolio that shows how great you are, you can have more to bargain with. just prove your worth. pay your dues. it sounds stupid & corny but it's really that simple. sometimes people forget about that and think '**** i'm never gonna make it. i'm not making enough money' and they have one foot in one door and the other elsewhere. 'you can run all your life and not go anywhere'. just be persistent and don't be short-sighted. if you feel like you'd love it if money was no object, then follow it as tho it wasn't. never quit until you're sure you've exhausted your every resource. and resources are infinite. all a human being needs is food.

My opinion is do what you love!! I have faith in a God so my opinion comes from that.
If you are doing something you love, then leave it to God (or whatever religion you follow) to take care of the finacial part. If your doing something for just the money you will spend that extra earnings doing stuff and buying stuff to make you happy. But you will not find it because you dread work.

Do what you love. When you love what you do, people will flock to you. Plus the Universe will always expand your abilities and give you new areas to work in, if necessary.
