I requested for two years visa under the HSMP scheme to start from 20th December 2006. I received a visa commencing Nov7, 2006 for One Year, which is inadequate. I want it changed. What can I do?

Obtaining a visa (from any country) is a privilege, not a right.

The issuing nation has the right to determine the length of time a visa is valid; it could be as short as a few days, or as long as several years.

From your description, it looks like they gave you the 12 month version (and I'm willing to bet you applied for it in late October 2006, which is why it's valid from early Novemebr 2006). To stay longer (legally), you'll need to reapply for an extension sometime before your current visa expires.

Be sure to investigate the requirements for your specific visa; you may have to actually reapply from OUTSIDE the country that issues it. Most don't make that distinction, but it IS a possibility...

Check

It seems that you can apply for extension, but they will charge you again (the whole thing looks like a way to rip people off). It also says you must enter the UK within six months of the start of you visa, so I hope you're here or on your way!

Good luck
