I know some churches that have general absolution services. Is this still permitted nowadays if it is a NON emergency?

General absolutions are still allowed. This allows you to receive communion, but if you are still obliged to go to confession for any mortals sins within a year, or else you committed another mortal sin by consciously not going.

Hi Kate,
I really have a problem with this question in general. It would have to be for a Catholic or Catholic-based Church because it is Never Found in the New Testament Scriptures. It is taken out of context from Jn. 20:19-23. This does not mean that a Priest is to hear and give "absolution". This was forgivness given by Christ (GOD's SON) while HE was on earth. We can not do the things that Christ was able to do and we are not to even believe that any man has the right to do so. The Catholic Church seems to write their own version of GOD's BIBLE whenever they want to add to it or take from it. We are instructed not to do so EVER. Have a great week.
Thanks,
Eds

In Catholic Churches it is permissible, but the documents pertaining the celebration of the sacrament state that it is really only to be done in emergencies or cases like a gathering of soldiers before a battle. For Catholics, the sacrament of Reconciliation as a whole is about personal healing, so doing it in such a "mass produced" way can often detract from that individuality. I wouldn't be surprised though to find out that some Catholic Churches do it.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL,

When you put yourself as high as God
you,can only debunk Him Christ was sent
and no man has the right to forgive sins.
We are God's children and to act as a mediator
to Him and think we can do the job left for
JESUS ALONE is sacrilege, if anyone thinks
themselves equal to the least in heaven they
are sadly mistaken
